Although the issue with something like that would be people being dishonest... No issue there, we can actually see what everyone has in the bank!

I don't know if this would be a money sink idea but what about badges? I know there are the ones you can pay for in real money, like the balloons, to put on your profile but isn't there a way to put custom badges under people's bones and post counts? I know the BC does this, so I wasn't sure

^ I personally really don't like the idea of adding even more stuff to the mini profile, it feels cluttered enough as is haha.
A raffle where you pay a certain percentage of your total wealth sounds best, imo. Equally accessible to everyone, and with the potential to remove millions of bones from the economy. We could also do auctions where you bid a percentage of your wealth (with 100% being autobuy), but it wouldn't bring in as many bones unless someone in the 1% wins.
Also, for anyone who didn't notice, we lowered the interest in the bank the other day. It's now 2.5%.

the bones system i guess was put in place so people gave to the community as well as took? It's not hard to raise a sum of bones as long as you bank all your bones and log in everyday to gain interest. i know not everybody can hex, but it's not too hard to get the hang of and i'm sure many of us who can hex don't mind helping people who are just starting out, and with bred petz you can observe what people like and adopt other people's bred petz and breed and adopt out your own.
and even straying away from petz, there's toyz, which there are a lot of tutorials for which you could ask for a donation for people to download them, clothes, playscenes, and even art, graphics, website layouts if you're talented in that division. Pose shows for bones, entering contests (I'm not entirely sure if the prizes for these are bones but just in case) there are all sorts of ways to earn bones if you join in and give to the community which I think was one of their original purposes.
And there's nothing wrong with making flat sales more expensive when people get wealthier, because when someone is sitting on 50k in the bank 5 bones from a flat sale is kinda just pocket change, but there shouldn't be anything stopping them from making them pricier. I think keeping the balance of giving more = richer is important so there's constant circulation and spread of wealth and so people keep contributing their own stuff and consequentially can buy other people's stuff.

I don't want to argue as I respect the mods' decision and I thought the interest was kind of high... But doesn't that do the opposite of what we are trying to accomplish? Make things even harder for newbies? We WW oldies got the interest which started us out and they don't get it.

I really, really don't think things are THAT hard for newbies. Sales are cheap and there's a fair number of freebies. Even if you don't have any hexing or breeding talent, you can make a fair amount of bones just by being active. That was why Rafa installed the bones system; so that even people who aren't high-end breeders or hexers would be able to work towards having something to 'trade' for petz that would otherwise be unobtainable.
Now, people are concerned that system will backfire because there's inflation because money is constantly generated (by posts and bank interest) while there are no real money sinks. I've explained above why I don't expect inflation to really damage the economy (plus, there will always, always be people who just like giving away their petz, and there will always be a tiny percentage of ~greedy people, inflated money system or no - that's how it has always been!) but since it seems most people feel like interest was much too high and it's the main source of inflation, we decided to bring it down a bit.
Yes, some petz (mostly auctions probably) will still get super expensive and be nearly unobtainable to a lot of people. But that, too, would still happen in a community without any currency. People who want their creations to be exclusive will always find a way to do so. That does not depend on having a monetary system or not. But having a monetary system DOES offer another way to trade for exclusive petz. Without the bones system, you'd have to be able to hex/breed a trade, or be very good at writing applications; now, you can also get there by being an active community member. Hell, you could even get there by offering a service entirely unrelated to anything petzy. I think it just offers more routes towards the same goal.
I'm not sure how much sense I'm making, and sorry about the novel. I'm just kind of tired of this debate tbh. We're trying to adjust what we think wasn't ideal before, and we're trying to take everybody's opinions into account but it's impossible to please everyone.

I think people are forgetting that there are other ways of obtaining petz besides the auction house. I sell hexies for what I think is a reasonable price flat out, and auction others. I also offer my fair share of freebies. I have donated a plethora of hexed litters to the advent calendar. It isn't hard for newbies imo. They need to contribute. Everyone needs to contribute! When I investigate those upset about "the rich", I see minimal threads. You won't get bones unless you contribute to the community in one way or another. Everyone also seems to forget that hex archives exist so people can reach out with other offers, whether bones, bred/hexed pet trades, applications, etc. Bones aren't the only way to achieve pets.

I'm not complaining about the rich. That would be a silly thing to do... Have you seen my own bank account? XD To be honest I think the Whiskerwick system is very good! I earned most of what I've got by chatting on the forum, haha! I don't think it's difficult for newbies, sorry if I implied that in my post. I was merely joining in in the discussion because I found it interesting. ^^
No matter what you all decide to (not) do, I'm fine with it. This is the best online community I've ever been a part of! Everyone is so generous and I haven't found it hard at all to make new friends and adopt new petz, I've had a great time doing so!

Conspiracy theory: The commoners are fear-mongering in this thread in order to accumulate and stash bones. It's easy to banter back and forth with someone else who's online at the same time, under the guise of "but the newbies!!!" even though we all know the PC isn't exactly overrun with new people. We know who we're really looking out for. The PClite are like "lol, nah" and lower interest so our measly 5 bones here and 5 bones there never accumulates. Whiskerwick is theirs to control. Eventually, revolution. ./shot IN ALL HONESTY THOUGH I kept thinking of posting to this thread but I never did b/c I am trash and never follow through. It's.. an inevitable reality of this system? Arie's last post seems pretty solid. IDK I'm not the most active petz acquirer so I'm probably not the most informed but idk things seem fine ^^Aww Honestly I made most of my money playing games (posting in the arcade thread) and then that is what earned interest. That and donations of course xD Amen to that us VS mods to 15 forever
