As some of you may know, the first Petz game, Dogz, came out on November 1st, 1995. This means that this November is the 20th anniversary of the Petz series. Considering how enjoyable all the Halloween festivities have been so far, I thought it might be fun to do something similar in celebration of 20 years worth of petz. The main event (which I would be willing to host) could be a gameplay contest designed to span across all the games, importing the same few petz from Catz 1 and Dogz 1 all the way up to Petz 5 (although I'd try to structure it in a way that people who don't have all the games could still participate). However, there could also be other petzy nostalgia related actives. Maybe there could be an old-school hexing contest? Or how about a "geocities-style" webpage contest? We could even revive the anti-abuse petz club for month, complete with sad gifs. The possibilities are endless! Anyways, I guess what I'm asking is would enough people be interested in hosting and participating in these sorts of events to make petz nostalgia month a thing?

I thought it was Nostalgia November 12 months a year here at Whiskerwick!
I really like the idea of doing something special to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the series, because that's super sweet.
I'm not sure how well something involving older versions of the game would work, because I think very few people will still have a copy lying around and they probably won't be easy to install and to get running. :c That being said, I just found all my disks in a box the other day so I'd probably give it a shot if someone knows of an easy, guaranteed way to install all of them haha (just figuring one out and sharing it with everyone would be plenty nostalgic, too, if a gameplay contest doesn't take off).
An old-school hexing contest would probably take off quite nicely. And how about a breeding contest for old-school mixies? Like, the ones you'd have loved back in the day, but that'd be considered ugly now... calico patches come to mind, haha. I could probably host this, if a nostalgia month does happen. Oooh, and I'd flip through all my childhood notebooks and binders and stuff to take pictures of all the petz related things I printed/wrote/drew/etc back in the day.
Provided there's enough interest from other members, I'm all for it. It's right inbetween two other busy months though, we've got a ton of halloween stuff going on this month and I'm going to go on a limb and guess there will be festivities in december, too. But then again... the more the merrier?

I actually wrote a guide on how to run Catz and Dogz here. It does require a bit of trick to get them running, but it's not really all that difficult. Petz II is a bit of a problem, though. Out of the 3 discs I happen to own, only one of them will actually install on Windows 7. I haven't figured out what the difference is between the disc that works and the discs that don't yet, but once I do, I'll be sure to share. Once installed, the game itself runs perfectly fine (with petzA), and if you have an older computer lying around, you can install it on that and copy it over if you happen to have one of the discs that don't work. As for people who don't own the games, Carolyn's Creations has the Dogz, Catz, and PII demos and demo foolers available. These aren't perfect, but they do patch enough of the game together that someone who doesn't own the full copy of the could still participate if they wanted. But yeah, I can see the problem in creating actives that require the old games in order to participate. My thought with the Gameplay contest (if there's enough interest) would be have tasks that ideally would be done in one version of the game, but could be done in any of them. For example, Day 1's task might be something like this: The time has come to pick out your newest family member - a puppy! But which breed to choose? Will you go with the boisterous Bootz? Or how about the clownish Scrappy? Or maybe the gruff Jowelz is more your style. Don't forget about Chi-Chi or Chip either! If possible, take the pup quiz, and see what it says. Of course, the final decision is up to you. Once you picked out your pup, get to know him (or her) a little. Make sure you say what you decided to name him/her and why. The only part of this task that couldn't be done in another version is the pup quiz, but I could build a copy of it in an online quiz maker for people with other versions could use. Therefore, it would be suggested that this task be completed in Dogz 1, but if someone who only had P4 wanted to participate, they would still be able to, and it wouldn't be held against them.

YES This means that this November is the 20th anniversary of the Petz series. WOAH thanks for letting us know! That's amazing! I would have completely missed it! We could even revive the anti-abuse petz club for month, complete with sad gifs. I would get way too into this I swear I thought it was Nostalgia November 12 months a year here at Whiskerwick! Might as well make it official! I'd love to see what people came up with for the breeding contest, and lmao I need to see these notebooks now. And those foolers still work? The gameplay contest idea celebrating it sounds super fun, actually.. I'd love an online version of the pup quiz to take! My question is if anyone would.. IDK, be willing to hex petz or overwrites or whatever of the original catz and dogz 1 breeds for the newer versions? I've always kinda wanted to own a bright yellow Scaredy to befriend my other P4 petz I don't even know if anyone else would have any interest in that but I think it'd be super cute, maybe another way people could have a piece of the original? OH Anyone who actually does have all the versions could totally adopt petz and raise them up through petz 1-4 (5 if you want for the sake of completeness but obvs there's a much smaller pool of potential adopters there and that's luckily the one conversion most people who need to could do) with lots of pictures obviously I'd pay a solid piece of my soul for one of these hypothetical petz if I can't get demos working well enough to do it myself It might be bad but I'd actually be more excited about this than Christmas when it comes to petz. I don't know why, it just seems really great! I hope it goes forward <3

^ Hexing the originals' breeds is brilliant. Some of them look super different from what they are now.

i'm game for an old school hexing contest, how far old school do you mean? Having one that spans back to before petz workshop was created so everything has to be done in lnz would be lots and lots of fun, i'm not sure how willing people would be to participate though.

I love the idea of Nostalgic November! I'd love to get in on the animal abuse images. I could have a lot of fun with it. ANd I wouldn't mind the game play either. I can try to install the demos otherwise a way to do it just in p4 would be great.
What about a "pre-petzA" breeding contest where you have to get the petz to fall in love ect. Maybe even have it so you have to get petz from the adoption center to do it so you can't use petz you already have that are in love? And there'd have to be pictures galore of them falling in love ect?

And there'd have to be pictures galore of them falling in love ect? That sounds like it would tie in nicely with the breeding contest I talked about above, the "uglies that you'd have seen as pretty back in the day" thing. Those are usually only a few generations, anyways, and having to breed without PetzA would make it a bit more challenging.
