In July of 2023, PUGS had a very exciting few days, with big drops from nebula . I went a little wild and ended up purchasing a dozen lab pups. [Then, Megan@Xoops 🌼 posted labs as well, and I grabbed one from there!] So, I was left with a ' baker's dozen' ( 13) lab pups! I decided it seemed like fate and I should try to naturally raise them! Because what is cuter than a bunch of lab puppies?

Oh goodness good luck!! <3 They are a lovely bunch! A handful even! I've always wanted to see what it was like to try to just raise a bunch of petz at once and feel exhausted 🤣 (I hope comments are okay!)

Finally getting back around to this ... there were just too many fun things happening in the Petzy World! However, I've been wanting to play with these pups for awhile (and I need to add them to my crew at some point), so now is the time! For Day One [ pups at age 12], I first took all of the pups out at the same time ... As you can see, it was CHAOS. Though entertaining, it wasn't a great way to really get to know the pups. So, I put them all away and took them out individually. I let them each play with some toys and then tried to get a feel for how much 'natural' showing talent they each had! In alphabetical order ... | BISTRO
Bistro ignored all of the toys to play with the mice. She liked both of them and gently carried them around for several minutes (the mice were not overly thrilled with this). My first impressions is that she's bit clumsy, but exceptionally sweet. She's also not overly interested in posing (yet). | BONDI Bondi is calm, until you put a toy in front of her and then she goes a little nuts. She really enjoys sitting by her toys and then crouching down and growling at them. She posed very quickly! So there's a good chance that she'll be a great show dog in the future!

| DELLA Della is the only non-Nebula lab in the 'Baker's Dozen.' She's very odd. And obsessed with the balls. All of the balls. She likes to gaze lovingly at them, is surprised by them, and will carry them around for as long as they're out and in her reach. She tried posing, but kept barking and growling. So we need to work on that a bit more. | HARROW A handsome trotting boy! Harrow approaches many things with caution. But he loves to do tricks! I did not even need to give him any treats ... he just began to play dead & walk on his front paws. He definitely is going to be a show puppy. He had a lot of fun with our posing session. |
|
| KATANA Katana loves to use her front paws for waving or smack or pushing. It's very cute. Katana loves to bring toys to the cursor. She picked up all of the different toys that were in the room and brought them to me. She's such a little sweetie. It took her an extra few minutes to get into 'pose mode.' However, once she got started she did a great job. | MURIEL Muriel is ... something else. Everything in the world is just a bit scary to Muriel. But that doesn't stop her from exploring her space (she just needs to keep a lookout for anything odd). Muriel kept either shaking her head, barking, or tilting her head while we tried some posing time. She'll need a little work if she's going to be a show dog. |

| MYTHOS Mythos is a hoot. He's so interesting to watch because he's just a whirlwind of energy and drama. He hates the cheese, loves the stick, and definitely is going to love playing with the other puppies. He refused to pose. At all. He kept standing on his head or crouching down to wag his butt back and forth. We'll try again later. | PEPPERBERRY These brindle pups are weirdoes. Pepperberry has a lot of opinions and she wants you to know about them. She hates the cheese and spent several minutes just rolling around on the floor in a dramatic fashion. So odd. She also loves to run and flip over and then skid across the floor. She was one of the easiest puppies to pose; I think she'll be easy to champ someday. | | | RACLETTE Another trotting cutie. I actually brexed Raclette just a bit. She had one little black patch on her foot, but I kind of felt she would look cuter with just the black tail tip. If I change my mind later I can always brex it back. She loves toys and walking around on her front paws. Raclette was another pup that didn't want to pose. She was having too much fun playing with the toys! | RUPERT Rupert has two modes: crazed and posed. Every time I clicked the camera he would either immediately go into pose-mode or he would yelp and make a surprised face. He also really enjoys carrying toys around. I'm thinking he'll make an excellent show dog someday! | | | SOFIA Sofia is having a love-affair with the bone. I put several toys out for her to play with, but she only had eyes for a single toy: her bone. If she wasn't carrying it around, she was sitting by it as though she was protecting it. Sophia didn't want to pose initially and preferred to walk around on her hindlegs, but eventually settled down and posed a bit. With a bit more work she might be killer in the ring.
| TIGRIS Tigris has a future as an agility dog, I think. He spent a lot of time trying to get to the highest surface he could find and then would throw himself off of it in a big leap! He wasn't overly interested in toys and did not really engage with them too much. He also seemed to enjoy posing! So maybe he'll be a combo agility and confirmation dog? | | | WAVE This dog is unusual. He spends a lot of time just gazing at things. The wall, the ceiling, the screen, the cursor. Just a lot of contemplation. He wasn't overly interested in any of the toys & was actually a little spooked by a few of them. He was also not quite sure how he felt about posing. After a few minutes it seemed to 'click' though and he threw some cute puppy poses.

I'm not sure what I'm going to do each day in terms of challenges, but I'm going to make an effort to keep updating this thread!

Day Two [age 15] needed to be an 'easy' challenge because I had a very long day. One of my favorite activities is to let my petz play dress-up. If you haven't tried this before, it's really entertaining. You pull a bunch of random items out of the clothes closet and fill your toy travel case with auto-rolling balls. Then release the balls and bring in the pups and unleash the chaos. They all ended up with some hilarious combinations of clothing items. I haven't labeled them, so if you want play a game and see if you can ID all of Baker's Dozen pups!

For Day Three [age 21] I decided to work on getting all of the pups their Foundation Baby Citizen titles! This meant I had to pick-out show names for all of them. Some of the pups were a little easier to work with than others, but they all did really well! I'll be submitting unedited versions of these to the actual Petz Citizen thread, but to stay 'in theme,' I'm including the edited versions below. I'll update this post as the pups get their certifications! For Day Four [age 27], I thought it would be fun to see how athletic the pups are! So I brought out the hoops and timed how long it took each of them to jump through! Bistro was up first. Though initially a little intimidated by this new blue hoop, it only took her 37 seconds to leap through! Continuing in alphabetical order, we have Bondi! Bondi was a bit more cautious than Bistro and gently batted at the hoop before leaping through after 46 seconds. I chose this pretty green hoop for Della because it matched her eyes. It must have been a good choice because after just 36 seconds she hopped through. Harrow was drifting in circles around the playpen, but as soon as the hoop came out he was interested. By far, Harrow had the fastest time with just 16 seconds! Katana was less sure of this task than the other pups. First she gently batted at the hoop, then something spooked her. However, I waited patiently and after 1 minute and 12 seconds, she hopped through. Muriel LOVED the hoop. As soon as she saw it she flopped down near it. About 21 seconds later she figured out how to leap through it. She had the second fastest time! Mythos also clocked in with an impressive time: 29 seconds. It only took a few cautious sniffs to get over the fear of a new thing. In what I'm coming to recognize is true Pepperberry style (i.e. doing things just the way she wants), it took sometime to get this cute pup to focus on the task. After a few minutes I figured maybe it was the color of the hoop she objected to. And, sure enough, as soon as the pink hoop was put away and the green hoop was out, she sailed through. She had the longest time of any of the pups of 3 minutes and 49 seconds. Poor sweet baby Raclette was initially very unsure of this new situation, but after 34 seconds she had it figured out. After being extremely baffled with life for almost a minute ( 53 seconds), Rupert sailed through the hoop with a bored look on his face. Sweet Sophia sat and calmly studied this new green thing before launching herself through the hoop at 26 seconds. Tigris was the calmest of the pups when presented with a new situation. He studied the hoop for a bit before leaping through at 39 seconds. Last, but not least, we have Wave. Who had opinions about the hoop I initially picked. At first he studied it, but then found it lacking and smacked it repeatedly away. Finally, I grabbed a different color and he decided red was his color. He completed the task after one minute and 20 seconds.

I'm glad you're enjoying it! I'm having a lot of fun. Though 13 is a lot of petz to do this with, ha. I think I'll do maybe 6-7 max in the future.
