History: When I first got Catz 4 going in 2001 my original plan was to have one large family of Catz... Adopt a pet to be a mate for a specific pet, then when they have kittens, adopt another new pet, and so on. Needless to say, that didn't last long after I discovered petz websites. XD Keyglyph's post on RKC about the family tree program reminded me of my Petzy roots, and I decided to go for it! I'm starting off with Catz as it was my first game. I will be posting the Dogz in their own thread as this is going to be image heavy! I decided to minimize how many petz I need to breed (current headcount 800+) I would use as many of my exsisting petz as possible. Soo... On to my project guidelines. - One child per pair in the tree.
- If there are loads of siblings, pick one that's not bred with an OW.
- If there are only pups/kittens of a pair bred with an OW file, use them anyway.
- If parent pet has multiple mates, pick one, and disqualify all children by other mates from breeding for the project.
- Breed Litters of 6 to 10 so you have leftovers to share. (I tend to keep 3 out of 10 lately.)
- Breed in all dogz including Hexies, Wildz, and Non OW files.
- Take notes!!!

Townsend and Della turned out to be a good combination. I ended up with 6 Keeps. One of them was this handsome boy. Jachin! He's a 3/4ths scale dane! I have another small Dane, named Juniper. Here she is next to Jachin And here's her family tree (Click to see it full size, it's wide., She has loads of siblings from experiments.) Side note: This eliminates Cinnamon as a possibility for this project as she's Alison's Aunt (A fun find when I was setting up family trees!) So I'll have to do a litter on the side with her as I don't think I've ever bred her.
It also Eliminated Grizz (Juniper's Uncle) which is a shame in a way as he tends toward black and white pups with blue eyes. Also here's the updated family tree from Jachin back.

The next one to carry on the breeding project with is... Shortstuff. (He was going to be shorty... but the name's already taken.. Sorry Shorty!) And here's his family tree. And I chose Vanilla to breed him to for maximum Mixture. If you look at Vanilla's crew page she has a pup, but JellyBean's Dad is one of Midge's Kids. Midge is already in the tree as Juniper's Dad.... So that Disqualifies JellyBean and her Dad both from this project.
On to the next round.

Oh my word, SHORTSTUFF. So adorable!
This is a really interesting project, Stancy. If I'm understanding it right, you're going through your large OG crew and kind of... pruning it down to retroactively follow your original plan from way back when? To breed a pet, pick a special offspring, do a matchmaker adoption, breed a new small family, repeat?
I think this is what I understand from what you've laid out here, based on your idea of "disqualifying" extra mates from the line.
What's your ultimate goal? To wind up with a family line closer to the one you would have had, if adoptions weren't so addictive and you'd stuck to the original plan? Or are you trying to pick the petz you're most deeply connected to, to create a very nostalgic and meaningful line of descendants? Or maybe something else?
Sorry for all the questions, but I'm really intrigued by all this! Especially as someone whose OG naturally-raised crew is very special to them, but who occasionally pushed a litter too large out of curiosity or genetics-chasing. Sometimes I wish I hadn't done that, because I wound up with a few pups here and there that I don't have an emotional connection to. That makes me sad, because I know most of my OG crew very, very well.
Or maybe this is just a call to action, to play with them and get to know them!! (rofl)

Or are you trying to pick the petz you're most deeply connected to, to create a very nostalgic and meaningful line of descendants? Or maybe something else? You've pretty much got it. My end goal is that I want to simulate what things could have been like if I had taken my time with adopting more petz. :-) I'm trimming out relatives as I always planned on minimizing inbreeding in my own lines, as well as for more varied results. I love very mixed up mixes! Also it's out of self preservation, as I get attached so easily! Nostalgia is a lot of the root behind this. Also, I'm going back and tying to finish unfinished projects as I stumble on them, or repurpose them into something else. I had a chronic case of 'startitus' as a teenager , and rarely finished projects. So I've been going back though and trying to finish, or re-purpose, half finished things from then (Mainly Crafts projects). My site is finally how I dreamed of it from back then (except I didn't plan on the pink, that was a fun surprise). So now it's time to get my petz family trees in order. ^_^ Sorry for all the questions, but I'm really intrigued by all this! I love the questions, Please ask more if you have any! I get a emotionally attached to most petz easily, and have a hard time of letting go. So this is also an exercise in being mindful, and really thinking about a pet... Do I have one that breed, and that color?... What makes this particular pet unique enough from the rest of my crew to make it 'worthy' of keeping it, or adopting it? Every pet I keep requires a certain amount of time. To catalog it, to play with it, and so on. And there's only so much of that these days. :-)
