is there anyway to make whiskerwick pop up in the search engine when regarding 'petz or 'petz fourm'? i noticed it doesn't pop up at all and it could bring in new potential members/players

I'm not sure proboards offers any SEO/SEA options to user forums, especially ones hosted for free... It can't hurt to check though, and it would be cool if we did better on google, so I'll see if there's anything we can do.

Yeah RKC does pop up. One problem with Whiskerwick though is that only members can view it. People are a lot less likely to join a site if they can't see what it's all about. I know this was done to stop guest poster spam but can't it be done like the RKC where guests can view but not post?

RKC probably scores well because the entire forum is public, whereas a huge part of WW is private. Which means less content search engines can present to end users.
To be fair it was a good while ago we had issues with spamming guests, but I was under the impression a lot of people also liked the privacy haha.
It looks like there isn't much we can do other than to keep going (as search results partially depend on activity, relevant content, incoming/outgoing links, etc. which mostly depend on the users), but I'm on it.
I'm not too worried about this though, the petz community is pretty small so I think everyone who stumbles onto petz will also hear about WW soon enough. New people are signing up to WW on a regular basis anyway, even if not all of them take up actively posting.

Oh maybe I'm just a strange one who doesn't like joining stuff they can't see. XD Whiskerwick was still public when I joined, it took me two years to finally sign up for Milk and I'm still not a PKC member...
Like I said though I'm pretty sure you can make the forum public without allowing guest posts. That way everyone can see it and there will be no spam. However if everyone likes the fact that it's private then by all means keep it that way. ˆˆ

I'll discuss this with Pinto and if anyone has an opinion on whether they'd prefer for the forum to be publicly visible or they like having privacy more, feel free to comment.

milk is all private for guests but it still shows up on google - but i think maybe that's just cause it's the only babyz forum. i have been thinking of unprivating most of the areas actually. back in the day we used to have issues with theft/people claiming babyz as their own using other people's graphics but this isn't 2005 anymore so we probably don't have to worry about that now xD
in terms of whiskerwick though (and any forum i go on tbh) i am all for the more "personal" areas still being private though, like the offtopic/personal life chat areas. i feel like a lot of that stuff is nobody's business unless they're members.

i haven't thought of people stealing graphics/pets although i don't think that is as much as a issue as it would be back in the day as you said aha, i think i'd proberly prefer it to be private but prehaps throw in a petz somewhere in the web address/title so it shows up? i know that the rkc url has 'petz' in it which is most likley the reason for it being top of the search results

i suppose it might be due to my own browsing and visiting habits - but i use google search and whiskerwick is the third result for 'petz forum'. not to mention - i think the biggest thing going for RKC is that it's URL is literally petzforum; of course it would be the first thing to show up when you search those exact words! we do have 'petz' in our title text, so i'm not sure where else pinto and arie could add it to push it up in the results. it's also gonna depend on which search you use (some people still use yahoo, or... -shudders- bing). results will vary.
that being said, i like the forum being private. as lacey said, i really doubt there is going to be much in the way of theft as there was back in the day (due to a combination of less newbies, older players who know better, and a reasonably active but not insanely so community that can theoretically track down any thieves within a couple days).
but as someone who has had things stolen from me on forums for years (usually roleplay forums, nothing to do with petz), i'm hesitant to make things viewable to everyone. let alone post-able, please NEVER enable that, unless it's like on RKC where you have a heavily mod trafficked board just for guests. i like the privacy. also, as lacey said, there are parts of this forum i don't think are for anyone but our members.
