I didn't think this was possible, but it looks like an additional plugin was released to do exactly this since I last checked haha. So yay! You should now get notifications for donations.

Edit: You should get a notification in the top-right corner of your screen (sadly not a cute little bubble, but it's something). I'm still tweaking/testing the settings, but if you have trouble seeing it give me a shout.
