GenePoolz v2.0 is here!
Rewritten from the ground up, this new and improved GenePoolz features a shiny new interface and an improved... well, everything. Bug fixes, error handling, open file dialog, etc. Have fun, and happy breeding!
PS. You can hover over colors to view their LNZ number!
How genetics work in Petz
Each pet has two sets of appearance genetics coded in their file. In my observation, a bred pet will display random selections from the between the two sets in their phenotype, so neither one is "dominant" or "recessive".
When you bring a pet fresh out of the AC, both of these sets are identical to how the pet looks. If you copy that pet and breed it with itself, the only possible differences in the offspring are through mutations. Mutations are uncommon, though not exactly rare, and they only happen to the colors of the pet -- eye, eyelid, and fur colors.
Now let's talk about the individual alleles, which GenePoolz displays.
Default scales: The overall scale of the pet. A low number here is what causes minis to happen.
Leg/Body extension: Leg extension controls the length of the legs, body extension controls the length of the body.
Marking: A pet can have two breed-specific markings at once. For example, dalmatian spots and mutt patches.
Marking factors: Controls how "potent" the marks are. A low number here is what causes things like spotless/spotlacking dalmatians.
Coat colors: Five coat colors are present here. The first one is the overall fur color. The rest correspond to different colored markings, such as poodle socks or halfie coats.
Eye color: Self-explanatory. AC pets with heterochromia will pass down whatever color their right(?) eye is, they can't carry code for heterochromia.
Eyelid color: Self-explanatory.
Personality: Admittedly this value is a bit strange, and I'm not sure how exactly it affects the pet.
Body parts: When mixing breeds, different body parts from different breeds will carry over genetically. The tongue just affects tongue color (red or pink). In OB dogs, only Chihuahua whiskers exist.
Coat: This controls things like poodle socks, dachie boots, scottie toes, and halfie marks.
