prehaps throw in a petz somewhere in the web address/title so it shows up? Yeah I just did that earlier haha. Pinto and I agreed a little more publicity would be good, so the forum has been set to publicly visible but guests can only post in the Information Center. The contents of Pawz n Clawz Cafe (the non-petzy section) are still members only. If anyone has major issues with this/wants a particular thread that is now public to be screened more, please let me know!

Hey guys just voicing my opinion, I'm actually not liking the entire board being public now! I was a lot more open here than on any other forum because of the fact that it was private. I'm sure I've seen forums before where the front page was visible to guests, but actually clicking on the boards and viewing topics/posts was denied and I think that would be a lot better of a solution if there are people out there who would like to get a general idea of what the forum is about before joining. (As apposed to the way it was before where you couldn't see anything but the logo haha.)

I agree with everything Harley said! WW shows up third for me when searching petz forums (and tbh petz is so niche I think that if people were going to join they would but idk) but I can always check on my mom's phone to see if it shows up third since she isn't normally serching petz stuff. My guess though is that RKC shows up first since it's much older and has lots of threads (and it does link to WW in some threads so I guess at least it's kind of a gateway). But I don't think the privacy affects if it's possible for something to show up in a search engine. And that sucks people stole petz and babyz graphics why!?!? I'm paranoid about my pet pics getting stolen (stupid I know, but I see too many stolen ones on DA so I'll probably delete my Sadie ones later). Is it possible to do what Milk does? I think the forum is private but the information and rules area are public so people can get a feel for the forum before they join and I think google is able to search that. Maybe Milk doesn't do that but idk xD I typically delete my email though after I get my petz sent to me on public forums since I got a lot of annoying spam before. So I guess I have to do that now here rip (I'm just too lazy to search and sometimes people lock their threads). Since WW is public now is it possible to make it a forum wide announcement? Just in case people posted stuff they want to delete or keep private.

maybe just have the information center public? i really just wanted potential members to find whiskerwick not to upset current members :c ps i believe arie just changed the title so it has petz in it so maybe thats the reason its showing up as third? i couldn't see it before

going to side with cheaco - not really digging every thread being accessible to guests; especially where (as rebecca stated) we are posting our e-mails. i always format mine strangely so that bots and the like don't pick it out - but it can still be an easy target for spammers if they can see it (i need to be better about removing it from posts on the RKC tbqh). both of the suggestions posed above seem good to me, it really depends on what you two (arie and pinto) want. the board might look a little empty (but keep people happiest) if it's JUST the information center visible. i would really like to go with cheaco's suggestion of making the information center visible/postable, and everything else's title/description/stats visible and block access to view topics/posts and upon clicking be redirected to register with the forum. it just takes some tinkering (tedious, unfortunately) with the permissions of every single board (visible = everyone, access = members & staff). that way there is publicity, lots of things to tempt people with, but everyone's information that they wish to keep private will be left as such. clicking the above 'test board name' will give you an error that says 'you do not have permission to access this board' or something along those lines. also! i have terrible memory, but considering her earlier post, i suppose arie DID just update it. in which case that was an awesomely quick turnaround for google search. definitely a good place to start. you're not upsetting people at all! i think this is just a subject that can be contentious. people either really don't care about it, or people are adamant about keeping things private. but yeah, maybe post up an announcement for people like me who never log out of forums, in case they want to know if you keep the changes!

On mobile rn so I can't quote everyone! Privacy settings do affect search results. A lot of the time when you google anything petz related (not just "petz forum"), the hits you get are forum threads on RKC. If those threads are all private, like it was before for WW, they won't show up as results. It's definitely possible to set for each subboard if guests can see the board and/or see the threads inside; I just went through the settings for each subboard before my last post to double check that they're set to the desired permissions. I chose to make the contents of all the petzy sections visible because it helps people get a better grasp of what's going on when deciding to join or not. People can check how active each section is, what kind of stuff is there exactly; for example, how often do new adoptions get posted and do they cater to my likes? I see what you guys mean about feeling like you could be more "open" because the forum was private. (Though again, the non-petzy section still is.) I've personally never received spam due to posting my email address online, but if you have I can see how it's a concern. Same with having art stolen. Pinto and I are gonna give it a little more thought and see if we want to set the visibility back a little (subboards visible, contents not). It's gonna do less for SEO and recruitment but as I've said before I'm not too worried about that since the community is small to begin with. I'll post a quick announcement about our decision asap.Edit: Setting everything (minus the Information Center and the homes on Clawley Lane) to visible to guests while keeping the threads members only. Skipping the announcement since in the end this is a very minor change that shouldn't have any effect on your browsing experience as forum members.
